McCoy Pleads Guilty To Lyon County Charges

Preparing to go to trial for the September 2020 murder of Trigg County’s Thelma “Ileen” Barnett next spring, Jonathan McCoy pleaded guilty to a pair of Lyon County charges in Lyon County Circuit Court last Friday afternoon.

As such, he was sentenced to eight years consecutively for complicity of receiving stolen property less than $10,000 and facilitation to second-degree arson — which was amended from second-degree arson. This crime also occurred September 2020.

According to court documents, McCoy agreed to withdraw a pending motion to suppress pertaining to the search and seizure of his cell phone, and all other issues contained within this ask. This also includes a complete waiver of such issues in the Trigg County case, where he’s charged with murder, arson, persistent felony offender and other related offenses.

Furthermore, Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins and her office have agreed to not use this Lyon County conviction in the sentencing portion of the Trigg County case — should McCoy be found guilty of those crimes.

McCoy is due back in court for August 14 in Trigg County.
