Christian County magistrates approved the compensating tax rate during Tuesday morning’s fiscal court meeting.
The tax rates, proposed during the July 23rd meeting, were unanimously approved by magistrates. County Attorney Lincoln Foster shared the updated rates.
Christian County Judge Executive Jerry Gilliam added the new rates featured a slight decrease from the 2023 rates.
Magistrates also approved a resolution concerning the repaving of Coal Creek Road, near Crofton. Judge Gilliam told magistrates that previous Judge Executive Steve Tribble and the fiscal court submitted a grant application for the work to be done via funds from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
That grant application was recently approved and after receiving the details the county learned they could take this project off the current flex fund list.
With that approval, the county will use that funding to repave Boddie Road, near Herndon, this fiscal year.
Magistrates also approved the hiring of Scott Gentry as the county’s new solid waste coordinator. Gentry will have a 90-day probationary period and work 96 hours a month. He follows in the footsteps of longtime coordinator Jim Fleming who retired June 28th.
Although county residents utilize GFL Environmental, Inc. – Waste Management for the pickup of household trash – the county has a solid waste coordinator to prevent illegal dump sites. That person also enforces all laws regarding littering in the county’s unincorporated areas and coordinates with the Solid Waste Authority governing the city and county to assist them when necessary.
