Bond Reduction Denied in April Shooting Case

Bond reduction for one of two men charged in connection to an April shooting on West 17th Street was denied Wednesday in Christian County Circuit Court.

Michael Thompson, the attorney for 23-year-old Stephen Bussell, asked for the bond to be reduced to 10%.

click to download audioCommonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy called Bussell a “moderate risk” to offend if he were released. Judge Andrew Self agreed and denied the bond reduction, setting a future court appearance for October 30.

Bussell was originally charged with seven counts of wanton endangerment, four counts of felony assault, and a single count of tampering with physical evidence. Leamy said the charges have since been downgraded to complicity after video evidence showed Bussell and a suspect police believe to be his brother firing guns from a vehicle in front of the Christian County Health Department on April 14.

Four people were reported injured in the shooting.
