Retirement isn’t sitting well with Todd DeArmond.
So, after 20-plus years in various leadership roles with the Hopkinsville Police Department, he was sworn into a new position Monday morning at Cadiz City Hall — becoming the third school resource officer under the umbrella of the Cadiz Police Department for Trigg County Schools.
The older brother of Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond, he’s a native of Bloomington, Indiana, with deep family ties in central Kentucky.
He and his wife have two children — a 25-year-old son in the HPD and a sophomore daughter at Hopkinsville High School — and it’s a big reason he wanted to get involved with SRO work.
He said there have been family discussions about eventually relocating to Trigg County, as lake life seems appealing, but protecting the campus is priority No. 1.
Meanwhile, Cadiz Police Chief Tyler Thomas confirmed DeArmond will be spending a lot of time at Trigg County’s two elementary schools — and the need of a fourth SRO, one for every school, is quickly approaching.
Thomas also noted that seasoned freshly-retired officers, much like DeArmond, make perfect SRO candidates — and not just because they come without the need of paying into the state retirement system.
As it stands, the CPD is once again close to being fully staffed — needing a singular patrol officer to get back on track.
Thomas said a physical fitness test was held this past Saturday at Perdue Field, in order to host a bevy of current applicants and measure specific health standards.
