Last week, Edge Media Group’s Alan Watts and Hoptown Chronicle’s Jennifer Brown shared gleaned insights on Jennie Stuart Medical Center — and the growing rumors of its potential acquisition, and/or merger, by another healthgroup.
Privately owned, but community driven, its board meetings are not open to public scrutiny or reporting, and its board members are commonly sworn to non-disclosure agreements.
Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam, however, shared his thoughts with the News Edge Monday morning — noting he’s been in contact with local citizens and adjacent officials since details first came to light.
Gilliam said he hopes Jennie Stuart Health leadership “looks a little deeper” for some other options, whether that means administration changes or whatever, before any major decisions are made.
Having the local governance, Gilliam said, is one of the major values he sees in the institution.
Opinions, he added, can be shared with board members and other Jennie Stuart Health administrators — though they really cannot comment on any potential inner-workings.
And, again, only an opinion, but Gilliam also shared one further concern.
Founded in 1914, and celebrating its 110th anniversary, Jennie Stuart Health currently has more than 100 active physicians in more than 30 different medical specialties.
