The Black Soil Sprout food truck will be at the Trigg County Country Ham Festival on Friday and Saturday to provide free meat and produce to community members.
The stop will be third involving Black Soil and the Edge Media Group. Black Soil representative Dom Tye worked with volunteers to give away more than 500 bags of food during the Black Patch Festival in Princeton on Saturday, September 7th, and another 500 bags of food during the Elkton Harvest Festival last Saturday.
Black Soil will partner with WKDZ to give away food both Friday and Saturday next to the WKDZ Trigg County Ham Festival broadcast booth in front of the Bank of Cadiz.
Tye says the program is made possible by a grant from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.
Tye says there are no requirements to receive a bag of free food Friday and Saturday.
He adds the mission of the organization is to help small farmers sustain and grow their operations.
Tye says the effort is much more than just giving away a bag of food, but is a good way to connect to the communities they are providing the free food in.
A variety of produce from Trigg County farmers will be given away both days, with a limited number of boxes of pork burgers to also be distributed through a partnership with the Kentucky Pork Producers. Black Soil will not be able to hold burgers, so you may need a cooler bag to keep it at a safe tempreature during the festival.
