Hoptown Half/5K A Success

Another Hoptown Half Marathon and 5K is in the books. 300 runners gathered on South Main Street Saturday morning to finish 3.5 miles or 13.1 miles through scenic Christian County. Parks and Rec Superintendent, Toby Hudson says the morning started out chilly.

click to download audio21-year old Kale Glunt sprinted across the finish line in just 16 minutes and 27 seconds to finish the Hoptown 5K. He was followed 32 seconds later by 37-year old Cooper Linde (16:59). 43-year old Will Owen rounded out the top three with a time of 19 minutes and 7 seconds.

While the 5K racers were pouring across the finish line, Hoptown Half Marathon racers were trekking through the city limits some 13.1 miles. 23-year old Rafael Osella averaged a six-minute mile to complete the race in 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 26 seconds. 42-year old Matt Bartsch crossed the finish line a minute and a half later to secure a 2nd Place finish (1:19:01). Just 3 minutes and 21 seconds later 39-year old AJ Haynes took 3rd Place (1:22:22).

Hudson says they could not host these events without community support.

click to download audioThis year proceeds from the Half Marathon will benefit the Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile. Planning is already underway for the 7th Annual Race.
