With no fanfare, the City of Hopkinsville took its next steps to medical cannabis. Wednesday night, during a special called meeting, City Council voted unanimously to approve the second reading of the Zoning Text amendment pertaining to where medical cannabis will be allowed to be grown and sold.
There was no discussion from Council after the summary of the amendment was read. This step now provided rules and regulations on a city level for businesses, which have received or will receive a license from the state to grow, sell, or process medical marijuana.
In other business, City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to close a portion of East 5th Street between South Clay Street and the CSX Railroad tracks. The street runs between the City building currently housing Probation and Parole and an empty lot.
Several items were declared surplus property and an extension in to Downtown Development Incentives for The Rabbit's Nest was grant through December 31, 2025.
