Freedom Elementary’s Site-Based Decision Making Council met with Superintendent Chris Bentzel Wednesday morning, and after consultation, affirmed Monique Lewis as the school’s next principal.
In full agreement with Bentzel’s choice, Lewis is a graduate of Hopkinsville High School, and most recently served as Freedom’s assistant principal.
Bentzel said Lewis was “instrumental” in the ongoing turnaround at the school, where strides have been made in both performance and culture. Lewis, Bentzel added, has strong relationships with students and staff, and has established a solid foundation for instructional leadership, staff development and community engagement.
Lewis began her teaching career with CCPS in 1998. For 24 years, she taught at Belmont Elementary, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary and Sinking Fork Elementary.
In 2022, she transitioned to an administrative role, joining the leadership team at Freedom Elementary School as assistant principal.
A graduate of Murray State University, Lewis holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in instructional leadership and Rank I certification.
Lewis and her husband, David, reside in Hopkinsville.
