The Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking public input on proposed transmission system improvements to continue to serve the growing electrical load and increase power reliability in the Todd and Logan counties.
TVA officials propose building a switching station from 19.5 to 22.5 miles of single-circuit transmission line. The new line would begin at the new switching station, which would be located off Old Trenton Road, and extend east to the Cave Springs Switching Station. The new line would be built using primarily single- and double-pole (H-frame) steel structures centered on a new 100-foot-wide right of way.
An event on Thursday, December 5th will be held at the Milliken Memorial Community House in Elkton from Noon to 7:00 PM. During that time, TVA staff will answer questions, discuss concerns, and receive comments on the project.
For those unable to attend the open house, TVA is also providing a virtual open house through January 6, 2025, and the public can submit comments by contacting TVA’s Nathan Murrell at 800-362-4355, by email at newtransline@tva.gov or by mail to: Nathan Murrell, Tennessee Valley Authority, 1101 Market Street, MR 4G, Chattanooga, TN, 37402-2801. The deadline for comments is January 6, 2025.
TVA reports the region growing three times faster than the national average and the University of Tennessee’s Baker School projects our region’s population to grow 22% by 2050. To support this growth on a local level, TVA is investing $2.8 billion to strengthen the power grid across its service area through 2027.
