A Hopkinsville man was charged with fleeing from law enforcement and hitting an officer’s vehicle on Lafayette Road Wednesday night.
Hopkinsville Police say they stopped a vehicle driven by 37-year-old James Johnson for a problem with his license plate, and he pulled into the Dollar General parking lot, then reversed hitting the officer’s vehicle, before fleeing at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle pursuit reportedly came to an end at his home on Stone Valley Drive, and he attempted to flee on foot into the home but was quickly apprehended.
Police say he had bags of what is believed to be cocaine, a forged temporary tag, a suspended license, and during the arrest he threatened the officer and the officer’s children several times.
He was arrested and charged with third-degree terroristic threatening, possession of cocaine, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first and second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, first-degree criminal mischief, and several traffic violations.
