In the midst of a “pretty large” renovation project, Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library Director Tiffany Luna gave Christian County Fiscal Court a considerable update Tuesday morning — noting things are going particularly well.
But efforts haven’t come without hiccups.
Currently working on the lower floor restrooms and elevator shaft, Luna confirmed bedrock was located near the elevator shaft — leading her, and many other library officials, to learn about the unique uses for liquid dynamite.
Furthermore, some draining issues were located near those restrooms, slowing renovation progress, but those, she said, have since been rectified.
Those lower floor restrooms, she added, will be completed this month — before demolition on the upstairs begins.
As of now, all services are on the first floor — including the genealogy department, public computers and a selection of non-fiction. Genealogy research, she said, has been cut down to just Christian County for now, and everything else is going into storage.
Renovations have limited the floor space to just six public computers, and she noted that their full computer sprawl would return once the children’s library back into the second floor.
The bathrooms, specifically, are getting a major lift.
The elevator is not scheduled to be completed until next March, but it will be larger than a one-man elevator, and will be more wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Passport and notary services and will continue uninterrupted, and Luna also confirmed that most available selections will be from the last four-ish years, allowing for the public to still enjoy current content with their checkouts.
Following the renovations, Luna said teens will have their own space on the second floor.
All told, if everything progresses from this point, Luna said April 2025 is the target completion date.
The library is open from 9:30 AM until 6:30 PM Monday through Friday, as well as from 9 AM until 4 :30 PM on Saturdays.

— Magistrate John Bruce said renovation efforts at Western Hills Golf Course are moving along smoothly and on time, while the Crofton Christmas Parade was swell, save for one small hitch.
— And the fiscal court’s next meeting will be special-called, and is set for 8:30 AM, December 27.
