Snow totals across western Kentucky ranged from three to five inches with Friday’s winter storm with warmer than expected winds creating a quicker melting schedule.
Justin Gibbs, lead forecaster for the National Weather Service in Paducah, says winds from the south on Sunday produced warmer-than-expected weather, which in turn, helped speed up the melting process.
click to download audioHowever, the warmer temperatures will be short-lived as an arctic blast at the start of the week will provide a bookend for cold weather in the 30s at the end of the week. Gibbs says to just expect cold weather through the weekend with little to no chances of another winter storm.

Through 12 days in January, the average temperature has been 29 degrees. The last time we had a January that averaged below 30 degrees was 1994.
