Dr. William Boyd Adkins, Jr., 97, of Hopkinsville

Funeral services for 97-year-old Dr. William Boyd Adkins, Jr. of Hopkinsville will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 24, at First Baptist Church.

Private burial with military honors will take place in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.

Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service.

Hughart, Beard & Giles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. William Boyd Adkins, Jr., 97, of Hopkinsville, KY died at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.

Dr. Adkins was born in Clarksville, TN on July 26, 1927 to the late William B. Adkins, Sr. and Carrie Ellis Adkins. Dr. Adkins was a graduate of the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and practiced dentistry for over 60 years. Dr. Adkins was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, a member of the West Kentucky Dental Society, and a lifetime member of the American Dental Association. Dr. Adkins was a World War II United States Navy veteran.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Nancy Ashby Adkins; and his sister: Florence Cannon.

Survivors include his son: William Boyd (Bonnie) Adkins III of Hopkinsville, KY; his daughter: Alice (Mike) Adkins Ivy of Appleton, WI; his grandchildren: William Boyd (Ashley) Adkins IV of Paducah, KY, Gabe (Tina) Adkins of Auburn, KY, Lucy (Eric) Shell of Nashville, TN, Jim (Jessica) Adkins of Murray, KY, Mary (Micah) Nite of New York, NY, Rob (Christine) Ivy of Pittsburgh, PA, and Margaret (Joseph) Verruni of Washington D.C.; 16 great grandchildren; his niece: Kathleen Cannon Bloom of San Diego, CA; and his nephew: Robert Cannon of Trigg County, KY.

Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church or a ministry or charity of choice.
