A man wanted in connection to youth football equipment that had been stolen reportedly led law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit on Pennyrile Parkway Sunday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 46-year-old James Phillips Jr. on Pennyrile Parkway at the Pembroke Road exit when he fled at a high rate of speed traveling head on to traffic and failing to stop at stop lights.

The pursuit reportedly reached speeds of over 100 mph before he ran off the road and into a field on Casky Lane and attempted to run on foot before he was quickly apprehended.

Police say Phillips stole a trailer from the Hopkinsville Christian County Bud Hudson Youth League containing over $60,000 worth of equipment for their youth football program.

Police say they have not recovered any of the equipment stolen but are following up on leads adding he is a suspect in several thefts.

He was arrested on warrants for theft by unlawful taking, failure to appear, and second-degree criminal mischief and also charged with possession of meth, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first and second-degree fleeing or evading police along with several traffic violations.
