John Perry Fourqurean, 84, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Trigg County Hospital in Cadiz. Born on March 16, 1940, in Gracey, Kentucky, he was the son of Ella Corrine Pace and John William Fourqurean.
John graduated from Sinking Fork High School and Western Kentucky University. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving as captain in 4th armored division until he retired from active duty in 1972. He dedicated his life to agriculture, youth education, and community service. He retired from the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service after a distinguished career of 32 years serving as Agriculture Agent for Trigg County and as 4-H agent in Grayson and Ohio counties early in his career.
John was passionate about farmland preservation and nurturing future generations through agriculture. His legacy includes founding the Trigg County Country Ham Festival, a celebrated community tradition. His contributions to the agricultural community were recognized in 2023 when he was inducted into the Kentucky Cattleman’s Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann Fourqurean. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years Sally Fourqurean, and his children: Elizabeth (Mark) Emery of Owensboro, Perry (Tamara) Fourqurean of Cadiz, and David (Jodi) Fourqurean of Gracey.
John was deeply cherished by his beloved grandchildren who will honor their grandfather by serving as pallbearers: John David (Abby) Fourqurean of Cadiz, Ann Michael (Alex) Hamilton of Owensboro, Natalie (Nix) Crawford of Bowling Green, Ella Fourqurean of Louisville, Anna Fourqurean of Cadiz, Addi Fourqurean of Cadiz and step grandchildren Tanner Emery of Dallas and Keeton Harris of Cadiz. His great-grandchildren—Reid, Clayton, Olivia, Annslee, Rhett, Emerson, and John Nix—were his pride and joy.
He is further survived by his mother-in-law Evelyn Newman, sister-in-law Marty (Freddie) Craig; brother-in-law Dr. Mark (Susan) Newman; brother in law David (Kathie) Chapman and nieces and nephews Marcie Rumans, Meredith (David) Figg, Evelyn J. Newman, Pam Craig, Amy Vitato, Sarah Newman, Jack (Katy) Newman, Catherine Newman; and great nieces and nephews Andrew Figg, Ava Figg, Kate Clore, and Kaylee Vitato.
John’s life was enriched by the friendship and camaraderie of his honorary pallbearers: longtime friends James Ladd and James Hughes, friends and former coworkers Elaine Clift and Gay Ledford, as well as cousins Jimmie Smith and Dr. Randy Allen.
John will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to family, agriculture, and his community. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
