Lois Stewart, 91, of Cerulean

Lois Sowell Stewart, age 91, of Cerulean, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

She was born on November 8, 1933, in Trigg County, Kentucky, to the late Alpha and Elsie Johnson Sowell.

The fifth-born of ten children, Lois grew up knowing the value of hard work and family ties early on. Married to Edward Stewart on January 13, 1951, she worked at the local Dime Store and Hopkinsville Clothing Factory for several years. After the birth of her son, Lois dedicated herself to raising him and helping to manage the family farm alongside her husband. She later opened the Cerulean Restaurant in 1982, which she successfully ran for over twelve years.

Lois was a member of Cerulean Baptist Church where she faithfully attended for many years. She found joy in the simplicity of farm life and cherished the time spent working the land with her husband and son. Her granddaughters often joined her in the fields, from feeding cows, cutting hay, picking blackberries, and fishing, Lois made sure they knew and respected the land as much as she did. She was a remarkable cook, and her hands were rarely still as she loved to sew and crochet.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Stewart (April 17, 2008); a brother, A.C. Sowell; and two sisters, Barbara Perry and Norma Wadlington.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Kerri Stewart, of Cerulean; her granddaughters, Jessica Shelley (Lane) and Kayce Stewart (Howard Humphries); two great-granddaughters, Brylee Grace Underhill and Ida Lynne Shelley; two brothers, Eugene Sowell of Cerulean and Wilton Sowell of Nortonville, KY; and four sisters, Wilmuth Hendricks, Nadine Mize, Nancy Simpson (Glenn), all of Cerulean; and Martha Nell Menser (Buddy) of Crofton, KY.

Funeral services will be held at Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM, with Bro. Chad Dorris will officiate. Burial will follow in Cerulean Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the funeral hour.
