For more than three decades, local leaders have combined their efforts on “Citizens for Fort Campbell” — hoping to advocate and discuss with Washington, D.C., legislators the key issues surrounding the home of U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division.

Those efforts continued this past week, where top discussions involved a soldier’s quality of life, as well as the safety and modernization of their workplace environment.

Through Christian County’s Military Affairs Committee, attendees included business representatives, city council members, magistrates, judge-executives and mayors — all of them serving south western Kentucky and Fort Campbell.

Key leaders who participated in this advocacy trip include:

— Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam
— Hopkinsville Mayor Knight
— Oak Grove City Councilman Isaiah Spencer
— Hopkinsville City Councilman Travis Martin
— Todd County Magistrate Brent Brookshire
— Trigg County and Champion of Fort Campbell’s Dr. Lana Bastin
— Rogers Group and Champion of Fort Campbell’s Lori Harper
— Champion of Fort Campbell’s Jack Smith
— Christian County Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Taylor Hayes
— And Director of Military Affairs Shannon Lane

Lane noted the MAC remains “incredibly grateful” for the group’s leadership and commitment to fostering a “supportive community surrounding Fort Campbell,” and that their efforts resulted in successful meetings with all Kentucky representatives and senators — which allowed and afforded effective communication surrounding the needs of Fort Campbell and its soldiers.
