Hopkins County Central High School FFA and Kentucky Farm Bureau banded together to create a hay fundraiser for farmers affected by the recent flooding in Eastern Kentucky. FFA advisor’s Ben Prevette and Gabrielle Prevette also serve as the district chairs for the KFB District Two Young Farmer and Rancher Committee. Ben Prevette talks about how the idea came to be.

A part of the FFA motto is “living to serve” Prevette wanted to use this opportunity to instill that in his students. He talks about how the FFA was involved in the process.

The original goal was to send 17 rolls of hay. That was the amount Prevette knew he could safely deliver on his own trailer, but they ended up sending 40 instead. The community played a key role in making the journey possible. From money donations to lending out a semi truck, Hopkins County came through.

Prevette said it was a big community effort. Leavell Farms provided the hay and worked with them on the price, so they got the most out of the donations. Each roll has been picked up by farmers who really needed it.
