A Clarksville man was charged with theft of identity after a traffic stop on South Virginia Street in Hopkinsville Friday night.
Hopkinsville Police say they stopped a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Joshua Overton for traveling the wrong way on South Virginia Street, and during the stop, he gave law enforcement a false name and date of birth twice.
During the investigation, he was found to have a suspended license and a warrant for failure to appear. Overton’s passenger 56-year-old Billy Scroggins was reportedly found to have a substance believed to be heroin in his front pocket.
Overton was arrested and charged with theft of identity, possession of marijuana, operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, giving an officer false identifying information, careless driving, and failure to produce an insurance card. Scroggins was also arrested and charged with possession of heroin.
