A six-session Ceramics class will be held on Wednesdays (Sept. 4-October 9), 12-3 PM each day. The class is titled “Ceramics: Introduction to Handbuilding and Surface Decoration” and will be taught by Susan Bergman. The fee for the class is: $250 or $225 for museum members.
Over six weeks, students will learn the essentials of hand building and sculpting in clay, along with the basics of surface decoration. We will construct classic forms, such as bowls, vessels, and boxes, employing bisque molds, slabs, and coiling techniques. We will investigate proportion and movement in surface decoration, applying colored slips and glazes in patterns both geometrical and organic. All levels of experience are welcome, from complete beginners to seasoned clay lovers. Tools, slips, glazes, a 25-pound bag of clay, and firing will be provided, students may bring their tools own if they wish.
