“Maundy Thursday” Service
March 28 @ 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Emmanuel Bible Church in Cadiz
We will hold our annual “Maundy Thursday” service on Thursday, March 28th, at 6:30 PM. The service will consist of a time of related Scripture readings and seasonal hymns, followed by sharing the Lord’s Table. The church is located at 2887 Hopkinsville Road (next to Southern States Coop). And the public is cordially invited to attend.
By way of an aside, I usually include the following each year both FYI and/or if can be of some help to your readers/listeners:
In the traditional Church calendar “Maundy Thursday” is a time for the commemoration of at least two events. The first is Christ’s Last Supper with His disciples during which He instituted the Eucharist or Lord’s Table.
The second is the giving of what the Lord called “a new commandment.” It’s from this second event that “Maundy Thursday” derives its name. The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin – “mandatum” from which we get our English word “mandate.” It was during the Last Supper that Jesus gave a “new mandate” or “new commandment”: that His followers should “… love one another, as I have loved you …” (John 13:34).
The Lord communicated this “new commandment” in two ways. The first was by His verbal instruction. And the second was by His personal example when He assumed the role of the lowest of servants and washed His disciple’s feet.)
