THOMAS AND BRIDGES FAMILIES TO GATHER FOR
THEIR 51st ANNUAL FAMILY REUNION
The 51st annual Thomas-Bridges family reunion will be held Friday, July 15th through
Sunday, July 17th at the Trigg County Senior Citizens Center in Cadiz, KY. Descendants
of James Thomas, Sr. and Drury Bridges, two of Trigg County’s early pioneer settlers
will meet for three days of fun and fellowship. Both James Thomas and Drury Bridges
moved from North Carolina to western Kentucky. Drury and his family arrived in 1804
and settled on 84 acres of land on Beechy Fork Creek. James arrived in 1806 and settled
on 200 acres of land at what is now the intersection of the Donaldson and Cadiz roads.
James Thomas had seven children, three of whom married into Drury Bridges’ family of
seven children, thus a reunion could not be held without both families being present.
The three-day event is sponsored by The Thomas Bridges Association. The Association,
founded in 1971, has a current membership of over 500 descendants. All family
members, whether members or not, are invited to the reunion. The three-day affair offers
a wide variety of events with plenty of time in between to sit, relax and talk over old
times.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. Friday evening with the “Welcome Home Wiener Roast”
which will be held at Trigg County Senior Citizens Center. The event is sponsored by
Lois McBride Haywood. Plenty of time will be available for family socializing.
On Saturday morning, July 16th, at 10:00 a.m., WKDZ Radio will host members of the
Thomas-Bridges family for a tour of the D.J. Everett III Radio Museum located in the
Cadiz studio. Plan to meet at WKDZ located at 19 DJ Everett Drive in Cadiz, KY at 9:45
a.m. for the tour.
At 6 p.m. Saturday evening, events will begin at the Senior Center with the meeting of
the TBA Board of Directors and Members Business Meeting followed by a musical
performance at 7 p.m. by Rock of Ages. All members are invited to attend the meeting
and everyone is welcome to attend the performance.
On Sunday, July 17th, the Annual Family Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. at the
Trigg County Senior Citizens Center. All lunch reservations must be purchased in
advance, as meals will only be prepared for those with reservations. The cost is $17.00
for adults and $14.00 for children twelve and under. Tickets for the lunch may be
purchased at the Welcome Home Weiner Roast on Friday night.
The Sunday afternoon program will begin at 1:30 and will include a roll call of states,
visitor recognition, and recognition of the oldest and youngest attendees, and those who
traveled the farthest to attend. In addition, a memorial service will be conducted for all
who have passed away since the last reunion. The reunion will have its traditional
closing with the group singing, “My Old Kentucky Home.”
