Lieutenant Colonel William “Bill” Mize, U.S. Army (Retired), age 84, of Cadiz, KY, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Baptist Health in Paducah, KY.

He was born on September 3, 1940, in Trigg County, to the late William F. and Mary “Mae” Thomas Mize.

Bill graduated from Trigg County High School in 1958 and went on to earn a B.S. in Ag Business from Western Kentucky University in 1962. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army. His 28 years of service to the nation, including 14 years overseas with tours in Vietnam, exemplified his unwavering commitment to his country. He retired with the distinguished rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1990.

Upon retirement, Bill returned to his roots as a cattle farmer, embracing the land and the community that he loved. As a Friend of 4-H and a 20-year participant of the Trigg County Farm Safety Day, he helped cultivate the next generation with the same values of hard work that he held dear. His community service continued with his involvement in the Trigg County Cattlemen’s Association, where he served as past president, and on the board of the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association.

Bill was a lifetime member of the 101st Airborne Association, VFW, and American Legion, as well as a 60-year member of the Cadiz Masonic Lodge #121. He was a longtime devoted member of Bethel Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. More than anything, he cherished his family and his role as “Pap” to his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cyndi Hatfield Mize, on May 3, 2010; and his son, Timothy Gallogly.
